The oldest condoms ever excavated were found in a cesspit located in the grounds of Dudley Castle and were made from animal membrane, the condoms dated back to as early as 1642.

An atom is made up of three tiny particles called subatomic particles,
these are protons, neutrons and electrons.
The protons and the neutrons make up the centre of the atom called the nucleus
and the electrons fly around above the nucleus in a small cloud.

The atom though consists mostly of space.

Humans are made of atoms.

If you could compress all the atoms of every person on Planet Earth, that's about
billion people, so the particles touched and there was no space between them,
they would occupy a volume the size of a sugar cube.

Yes.  Really!

The periodic table will tell you how many particles an atom is made up of.  It's called it's atomic mass.  ie:  Hydrogen can have just two particles, while Chlorine has 53.

Replace the word 'tiny' with 'types of' !

"An atom is made up of three types of particles called subatomic particles".

My original post does not mean that every atom only has only 3 particles,
but that it has 3 TYPES of particles.
Every element will have a different amount of protons, neutrons and electrons,
and this is reflected by the element's atomic number in the periodic table.

EDIT - this is effectively what you have posted up there ^^^^^^^^^

Atomic Theory
Sub-Atomic Particles - Chemistry Libre Texts

A typical atom consists of three subatomic particles: protons, neutrons, and electrons. Each have a total spin of 1/2.

It's not surprising that folks get the wrong idea about stuff. Even the texts are worded wrong.
Still, you can't be expected to be good at English AND physics as well! Very Happy

I have to say I’m much better at English than science LOL Embarassed Laughing
Although ironically I worked for the Atomic Energy Authority at Risley for a while,
and I know that Uranium 238 has 146 neutrons and 92 protons.

More knowledge as is often said on here.

@tonker wrote:330 particles, then?

I had to Google the number of electrons, which is
the same as protons.

So 146 + 92 + 92 = 330.

The heat generated in a nuclear reactor is caused by neutrons banging
Into each other.

Nuclear fuel consists of two types of uranium, U-238 and U-235. Most of the uranium in nuclear fuel is U-238, but U-235 splits—or fissions—easily. In U-235 atoms, the nucleus, which is composed of protons and neutrons, is unstable. As the nuclei break up, they release neutrons.
When the neutrons hit other uranium atoms, those atoms also split, releasing neutrons of their own, along with heat. These neutrons strike other atoms, splitting them. One fission triggers others, which triggers still more until there is a chain reaction. When that happens, fission becomes self-sustaining.
Rods inserted among the tubes holding the uranium fuel control the nuclear reaction. Control rods, inserted or withdrawn to varying degrees, slow or accelerate the reaction.
Water separates fuel tubes in the reactor. The heat produced by fission turns this water into steam. The steam drives a turbine, which spins a generator to create electricity.

Would you please also correct the statement "chlorine has 53"?
