Mensa Mind teaser

on Sun Dec 24 2017, 19:02
1}I know MYG likes a puzzle so specialy for her and everyone else of course.

If you had a pizza with crust thickness 'a' and radius 'z', what's the volume of the pizza?

2}Take 9 from 6, 10 from 9, 50 from 40 and leave 6.

How Come ??

The volume is the area of the pizza times its depth.

So, pi times z squared times a.

I thought I had answered but it disappeared. The second question uses roman numerals with a a twist on the first letter which I didn't spot right away as my mind is still reeling at the moment.

Character map within System Tools which is within Accessories. How you you get there depends on your OS.

VI minus IX = V -X

IX minus X = I

XXXX minus XXXXX = -X

If I put those together, I get V –X I –X as a product.

So, I can see a V and an I which is 6, but I have 2 minus X’s confused

I'll carry on, but I'm sure myg will get it first.

Well done MYG and Ray

Solution:

SIX - 9 (IX) = S
9 (IX) - 10 (X) = I
40 (XL) - 50 (L) = X

=> SIX

Not sure what you mean by a twist myg, but if I revisit my original solution

I can revise it:-

VI minus IX = V -X

IX minus X = I

LX minus L = X

If I put those together, I get V –X I X as a product.

The +X and -X cancel each other out and leave VI which is 6.

Your way still works Ray and more satisfyingly.
