Band of Brothers

on Wed Dec 27, 2017 11:05 pm
This is the astonishing story of how six British brothers fought in the Second World War - and all survived. The Higham brothers enlisted to fight overseas and were shot at, survived crash-landings, were blown up and sent on rescue missions. The Higham brothers Their brave sacrifice has been likened to World War Two film Saving Private Ryan, which sees U.S. soldiers go behind enemy lines to retrieve a paratrooper whose three brothers have been killed. Luckily all six brothers, who were born in Darlington Street in Wigan, Lancs., returned home alive despite several being seriously injured.

At first glance, my thoughts were how come this remarkable story is seemingly new?

Then I wondered how many friends/neighbours of the family would have lost only sons and the like. Perhaps something the family wouldn't want to shout about.

I remember a family called Higham having a fruit and veg stall in the old market. I wonder if this was the same family?
