WR Cryptic Crossword Clues 28-2-18

1)  Woke up to sudden sharp sound after second sleep.  (4)   _ _ _ _
An easy one to start us off.
The abbreviation for SECOND, followed by a light sleep.


2)  These vices include envy with idle sadness in some versions.  (5, 6, 4)   S _ _ _ _      D _ _ _ _ _      S _ _ _
An anagram (some versions) of  ENVY and IDLE SADNESS


3)  Getting through last course? (6)    C _ _ _ _ _
A double definition.
The first, maybe  getting through life.
The second being the covering course of masonry of a wall.
       

4)  Gratitude for increase in value.  (12)   A _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _  N
A double definition see if you can work it out.


5)  Chorus created for late performance. (3, 3, 2, 7)   W _ _      A _ _      W _       W _ _ _ _ _ _
What you might chant for something that is late.


6)  Animals found in a toyshop and a supermarket
In consecutive letters in the clue.
   

7)  Hasty with hesitation in getting bacon.  (6)   R _ _ _ _ _
A 4 letter word for HASTY, followed by the usual 2 letter word for HESITATION.
   

8 )  Scientist who may have difficulty working under a cloud.  (10)   A _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
This scientist definitely needs clear skies.


9)  Hope and Crosby almost reel.  (6)   _ _ _ _ _ _
The first name of Hope, and almost all the first name of Crosby.

Ray i was stumped with this for an hour in todays WIP

Im on it Gassey.

When you see the word rising, you can always say it's 'down' clue.


So either 'IT'S' rising OR a word for GREAT is rising, or even 'TO' is rising.
