If Tom gives Tim £12 they will both have the same amount of money.

If Tim gives Tom £12 Tom will have five times as much as Tim.

In a cricket match the average number of runs per over in the first 20 overs was three.

After a further 30 overs the average number of runs rose to seven.

What was the average number of runs in the last 30 overs only?

Two cars set off from the same point to travel the same journey. The first car has a start of 10 minutes before the second car sets off. If the first car travels at 60 km/h and the second car travels at 100 km/h, how many kilometres from the starting point will they draw level?

First car travels at 60k/hr = 1k/min

Second car travels at 100k.hr = 1.666k/min

Let T = time they meet.

First car = 10 + 1T

Second car = 1.666T

10 + 1T = 1.6666T

0.666T = 10

T = 15 minutes

Sorry myg, I didn't read the question correctly.

15 (minutes) x 1.666 = 25 kilometres.

You have 10 strings of pasta left on your plate. You randomly start tying up their ends, until there are no loose ends anymore. What is the average number of loops which are created?

With two strings the average is taken from the chances of making a loop with each knot.With two strings the chances are 1st knot 1/3 second knot 1/1 average 1.3r . i.e . making 1 loop is more likely than making 2.With three strings chances are 1/5 then 1/3 then 1/1 average 1.533r.The average doesn't reach 2 until eight strings so with 10 the average is just over 2 or 2.1332218
