Joey leaves his house in the morning to go to day camp.

Just as he is leaving his house he looks at an analog clock reflected in the mirror.

There are no numbers on the clock, so Joey makes an error in reading the time since it is a mirror image. Joey assumes there is something wrong with the clock and rides his bike to day camp.

He gets there in 20 minutes and finds that just as he gets there the day camp clock has a time that is 2 1/2 hours (2 hours and 30 minutes) later than the time that he saw in the mirror image of his clock at home.

What time was it when he got to day camp?

(The clock at camp and the clock at home were both set to the correct time.

How can you state the time (of day) when there is no start time stated in the question?
You can only state the time relative to leaving the house surely.

I think I'm gointo give you a clew

To be a "Mirror Effect" it must be mirrored around 12 o'clock (when the hands are straight up), or around 6 o'clock (when the hands are pointing up and down), as we know he left in the morning, it must be 6 o'clock.

Thats all I'm saying Very Happy

Given his 20 minutes travelling there is a time difference of 2 hrs 10 minutes  in between the time he thought and the actual time. The two times (hands on clock) are mirrored  i.e. across the 12 to 6 line. The 'small' hand will move one unit( a 5min section) either side of the mirror line as the  'big' hand moves twice around the clock plus 10 minutes ; also one unit either side of the line.A day camp and his leaving in the morning suggests the small hand moves between  5 and 7 rather than 11 and 1 which would run into afternoon. The big hand position must be closer to 12 than 6 as this would affect the position of the small hand.To give a time difference of 2 hours 10 mins  this must be before 5 oclock and after 7oclock by  5 minutes.

First subtract 20 minutes from 2 1/2 hours to compensate for his 20 minute bike ride to give a difference of 2 hours and 10 minutes.

To be a "Mirror Effect" it must be mirrored around 12 o'clock (when the hands are straight up), or around 6 o'clock (when the hands are pointing up and down), as we know he left in the morning, it must be 6 o'clock.

So, divide that 2 hours and 10 minutes by 2 and this will give you the center-point (65 minutes) for compensating for the mirror.

By adding that 65 minutes to 6 o'clock you get the time he left home (7:05), and the time he saw in the mirror (4:55).

Furthermore, by re-adding the 20 minutes from when he left (7:05), you get what time he got to camp (7:25).

So there!

Now, the clock shows 3:35 pm. If the clock is rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise then what will be the time?

A, B, C, D, and E are representing whole numbers different than each other and zero. So, what are those numbers?

Blimey!!!!!!!! confused

I can't see an algebraic way of doing this, there are 5 unknowns.

If you multiply any number by 4, then the answer will always be an even number, the only certain thing is that the letter 'A' is an even number.
Beyond that, sticking random numbers in and seeing how the equations behave is my plan of choice.

I may be some while!!!!!!! LOL Embarassed Very Happy

A=2,B=1,C=9,D=7,E=8 Good start Ray but the biggest value of A is 2 or the answer would be more than 5 digits.

Very  well solved indeed myg Brain teasers - Page 14 3530011831

I was  struggling, I figured you would need to make certain assumptions

to  satisfy the equation.

"the biggest value of A is 2 or the answer would be more than 5 digits".

That makes sense.

Answer

There is a five digit number, when it multiplies by 4 it gives again a five digit number but the new number is other way around.

This number is: 21978

A=2, B=1, C=9, D=7, E=8
