An easy one to start us off.
A 4 letter word for always, followed by a 3 letter word for a heavy weight.


2)  Nobly involved with English Queen who lost her head. (6)   _ _ _ _ _ _
An angram (involved) of NOBLY and the abbreviation for ENGLISH.


3)  Kangaroo perhaps, or cad.  (7)    B _ _ _ _ _ R
Cad in this case is a rotter.
Can you suss it?
 

4)  Spread for Mrs Simpson.  (5)    _ _ _ _ _
Spread in this case is to put on bread.
Mrs Simpson is the cartoon character.
 

5)  Current sort of underwear,.  (7)   T _ _ _ _ _ _
Current in this case is AIR
