I can remember this bloke used to call every week for money, and every so often giving us a voucher for such an amount to use at Oxleys. Used a lot at start of term time and Xmas.

Caught that bus many, many times. If it wasn’t that it was an LUT from the Market Square. Could be Warrington, Earlestown ( single decker) and Leigh via Lowton. Sure there were more but I forget. At a push the Leigh via Bickershaw but I had to get off at Bickershaw Lane and walk to the bottom of Abram.

I remember being took to see Father Christmas at Oxleys, Wigan. You sat in what was supposed to be a rocket ship and got spun around a couple of times then ended up in the North Pole. Rolling Eyes

Must have cost a fortune in fuel.

No.  I mean 99p.

19 shillings and 11 pence is what it says on that advert.  It should be 99.5p, actually, but 1/s a pee isn't used anymore so, for the benefit of the customer, I've rounded down!

99p your summer dress!  Come on now!!  Once they've gone, they've gone!!!   Laughing

It's because the ONLY advert, for the old  'Oxley's' department stores, just happens to be for the Widnes branch.  And, who gives a shit how long it takes to get from Wigan to Widnes by bus?
Not me, for sure, because I never use a bus and have no intention of going to either of those two towns in a hurry.

And that, in a nutshell, is what the Oxley's advert has got to do with anything,  shortarse!   Rolling Eyes

Is that because the stores have long gone?

There's a new store in Wigan selling ladies casual jackets for £1.

It's where TKMax used to be.

Re: Station Rd Oxleys

When I were 11ys owd I ended up 'commuting' to school from Bamfurlong to Highfield, due to a house moove, taking longer than it should and in a morning  I would walk to top of Bamfurlong and catch 320 to Wigan and then Windy Arbour bus up to Highfield and on the way wom, I had a choice, which was walk down old Westwood Loop Line, which was completely intact at that time, except for the track which had been removed by then, but everything else, the track ballast, bridges, signal equipment was still there and I would catch the Ashton bus from Goose Green to Ashton and then catch 320 or number 1 bus from Ashton to Bamfurlong, but I found the quickest way to get home, was Windy Arbour bus to Wigan and then Abram bus as shown in picture, to Platt Wazz and then walk across road and catch number 1 bus from outside of the then British Legion in Platt Bridge, for the short stretch to Bamfurlong, I would have walked from Platt Wazz to Bamfurlong, but when I did that the Platt Bridge bullies, tried to throw me off canal bridge into the canal ....
