They shall not grow old

on Sun Sep 30 2018, 13:16
In cinemas 16th Oct

The original image vs the colourised artistic rendition (Picture: WingNut Films with Peter Jackson).

The first trailer for Peter Jackson's First World War film 'They Shall Not Grow Old' has been released.

The movie will premiere at the BFI London Film Festival next month.

The film has been created by original footage from the Imperial War museums film archive and BBC archives.

It also uses voices of veterans to bring the reality of war and the front line to life.

The film has also been remastered in high definition and colourised.

As well as premiering at the film festival the film will be released at special cinemas across the country in 2D and 3D.

The men in the hedgerow one with a red triangle battle patch on his arm are from the 29th Division, this division had three brigades, 86 brigade had the 1st Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers on board. The 29th Division took 94,000 casualties in total during the war, 34,000 at Gallipoli alone, 27 VC's were won by Division members, 12 at Gallipoli. They didn't fair well on the Somme casualties were horrific for the whole Division, hundreds of men of the Newfoundland Regiment of 88 brigade were shot down trying to get down hill to their starting line just a matter of yards away.

I look forward to seeing the work done to these films.

Well what a film that was, watched it last night and couldn't believe what I witnessed. When the film turned from black and white to colour it took my breath away, to see what those men and boys actually looked like was amazing. The sadness soon took over as the commentary accompanied the horrific pictures of men strewn over the fields and in the mud after shell fire. Puts our lives into perspective.

God Bless them all and thank you.
