WW1 Centenary Concert

on Fri 9 Nov 2018 - 10:20
World War One Centenary Concert
Sunday, 11th November @ 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Join us in an afternoon of poetry and song as we commemorate the centenary of the end of the Great War, The War to end Wars.
We will share songs, pictures and videos remembering the sacrifices of our brave service men and women in that war and in all conflicts before and since as they fought against unspeakable horrors to protect our homeland and to provide for our future.

Your Country Needs You

Over the last century who has been brave enough to answer the call?
Poignant memories over the last century abound:
We meet the man whose great grandfather gave his life during a Zeppelin raid over Wigan
We meet the family of Lieutenant Commander Ian Molyneux, hero of our town, who made the ultimate sacrifice aboard his submarine in March 2012.
Ian’s daughter, Beth, will share her poem that formed the central feature of the BBC Festival of Remembrance at The Albert Hall a couple of years ago: Beth, 14, has been commended for her tremendous efforts raising in excess of £12000 in her annual poppy appeal.
——-
Entry will be free but, during the afternoon, Beth will be holding her poppy sale and we will also hold a collection, the money from which will be shared between the British Legion poppy appeal and The Old Courts disability facilities.
——-
We will share sad and moving songs together with happy and uplifting ones, renditions which raised the spirits of our great nation during those darkest of times: from songs like “It’s a Long Way to Tipperary” to those of Wigan’s own George Formby.

Anyone with a story or some memorabilia to share; please contact The Old Courts or message Lawrence on 07957 749658

All ages welcome

Acoustic performers and stage times will be confirmed shortly
