So the Council have provided an alternative path, which leaves the hotel private, but gives whinging Wiganers a marvellous view of the hall and Wigan.

So what is the problem?

The Ramblers, formally known as The Ramblers' Association, is the largest walkers' rights organisation in Great Britain, and aims to represent the interests of walkers. It is a charity registered in England and Wales and in Scotland, with around 123,000 members

Without their fighting for the right to ramble, you wouldn't be able to walk in much of the Countryside, so be grateful, you silly oik. Smile

Whether Bob is a 'silly oik' or not, the law on public rights of way over private land has stood for centuries and consists of ancient rights of way given to people and horses.
The Ramblers simply ramble.
You find plenty Ramblers members living in places like Starndish! Rolling Eyes

Friends of Haigh - @Friends_of_HWP (28th April):

Our new website - friendsofhaighwoodlandpark.co.uk has launched this morning. Still some additions to be made, but lots of history of the park and information about the Friends group and how to get involved. Love to hear any comments or suggestions. Many thanks! (Twitter Link )

@FriendsOpen (Friends of Haigh Hall Heritage & Open Access To All):

We are pleased to see the temporary sign @IhlWigan. Please may we influence the language on the permanent sign? ‘Visitors are welcome’? This isn’t a permissive path & language really does matter
