An easy one to start us off.
A Roman numeral followed by the past tense of EAT.


2)  Scoundrels disturbing grouse.  (6)   _ _ _ _ _ _
An anagram (disturbing) of GROUSE
   

3)  Clergyman moved diagonally.  (6)   _ _ _ _ _ _
Can you suss it?


4)  State the name of a Bee Gee’s song. (13)   M _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ S
A US State and a Bee Gee’s song.


5)  Women’s Institute’s admitting husband according to rumour (7)   W _ _ _ _ _ R
The plural abbreviation for Women’s Institute containing  (admitting) the abbreviation for husband, followed by a short Latin word for according to, or by means of.
   

6)  Prize required by astrophycist.. (6)   _ _ _ _ _ _
In consecutive letters in the clue.


7) Inferior supporter precedes superior.. (6, 4)   S _ _ _ _ _      B _ _ _
Somebody who supports you in a vote, followed by a 4 letter word for SUPERIOR.


8 )  Keen perception having last word about copper. (6)  _ _ _ _ _ _
The last holy word around the elemental abbreviation for the metal copper.


9)  Stack of fruit in funny rhyme.  (8 )   _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
A citrus fruit followed by a haystack.

Really excellent crosswording, very well played.
You just missed out on clues 7 and 8.
Took me 3 attempts to mark you, blinking thing wouldn't post.

EDIT - For some reason I didn't tick 'Massachsetts'.
