join the Daves upon the lock,
that took 6 weeks,
oh what a shock,
fencing,pumps and cabin too
a fleet of vans
an 8 man crew,

the towpath shut
dogwalks stopped
from going down the cut
and what was done
to warrant this cost
a plank of wood, and lots of fun,

Winter Open Days not in Wigan but Manchester this weekend - Sat 9th & Sun 10th Feb, 10am till 4pm - canalrivertrust.org.uk:

Open Days: Rochdale Canal
“Come and visit Dukes Lock in Manchester as part of our winter open days programme.

Lock 92 along the Rochdale Canal is the last lock before joining the Rochdale Canal to the Bridgewater Canal at Castlefield Junction.

Over this exciting weekend, the lock will be drained so that gates can be relined. This means you'll be able to walk in the drained lock chamber, a rare opportunity.

We'll also be offering canoeing for visitors to try out.

Two Let's Fish! events will also take place - find out more via the link

I missed the yellow waymarker when I was there last year - only just spotted it in the pic!

“Join John Robb and over thirty special guests, ranging from city councillors to body-poppers, psychogeographers to popstars as they explore the Rochdale Canal and Petersfield areas of Manchester.

Ten waymarkers placed by the canalside link to ten brief audio programmes for your iPod or mobile, each introducing a different, unexpected theme in the heritage of the city, and each accompanied by a map suggesting related destinations to discover around town.”

Thanks Jo Anne

Went on the tour to the top of the lift this morning. Lovely views but a bit breezy.

Lots of volunteers helping out at the site.

One of our customers is the head of the Canal and Rivers Trust Museums!

He wasn't in, when I went measuring their windows last week, but I'm going to put him right about their "longest canal in England" claims for the Leeds / Liverpool Canal!! Rolling Eyes

Just remember the customer is always right, Tonker. Oh, and that it’s the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.  Razz
