Well done Tomplum, your garden looks very neat and tidy saying it is winter, our yard flags are green with moss or algae or whatever it is - last year I brushed it with a bit of washing up liquid and a stiff brush but it soon came back - not keen on chemicals.

It will be nice to read each others diaries - hopefully others will add theirs. I'm more into fruit and veg but its always nice to see what others are doing and perhaps learn from them. Very Happy

thanks veggie, I've got my garden shed now and erected it, it's a cheap metal shed from ebay and a bit flimsy but for the price of £174 delivered you can't expect much, So I'll update my diary this weekend, I'm also keen to learn more from you more experienced gardeners and hopefully get better results, Smile

If anyone is tempted to getting one of those tin sheds that I got, don't do it, they're realy flimsy the doors are troublesome and I've now found the rain blows in, I wish I'd paid a bit more and got a wooden one or a good quality plastic one, Crying or Very sad

How big a shed are you looking for, Tom? Reason I ask is I'm going to be replacing the old 6' x 4' we have, and putting an 8' x 6' in. Works out at around £300 or so (from vague memory) to buy the materials to build it myself.

well this tin shack is a 6ftx4ft and fits well in the space, thats why I got that size but. I realize that its also too small, So sometime in the future I'm going to build a bigger one, but that's not going to be anytime soon, I'll stick with what I have for now, I've been working on it this afternoon and hopefully have stopped the water ingress, thanks for the thought though Teme, toms garden diary for 2015 709307421

Tom/Tem , reference your shed experience , I WAS about to order a metal shed for our Nora's gardening stuff , but after reading you comments I shall buy or build another wooden one , she wants it about 8'x10'. Regards:D
PS shouldn't you gardeners have a yellow mon with a fork in his hand or something ???? Very Happy

I'm a comparatively brand new gardener dickie, I've only been doing a couple of seasons so I've learned a good deal from Teme, veggie, eront and others, I tend to jump in and have a go, like that shed, I never looked around and asked I just went and bought it off impulse, <<>>>

I think everything is slow this year, growth, birds - everything seems later than normal.

more seeds shooting through now, sweet pea, marigold, some mystry seeds, no sign of any tomato yet, I'm wondering if I set them too deep, I'll sow another tray at a lesser depth and see if that makes a differance,

could be Teme, but I've sown another tray with the seeds just under the surface and we'll see what happens, I've noticed loads of (what i think are weeds) popping up in the garden so i've been plucking them out this afternoon as i had a spare couple of hours, what do weeds know that plant don't ? they just sprout up and don't need any nurcthering ,fertilizer or attention, scratch

Tomatoes can take up to 21 days to germinate, I start mine off on the windowsill in polystyrene cups, aubergines take even longer. That said they don't need much compost covering the seed - so you may find your second lot appear before the first.
