A spider or a ladybird.....and erm....Weeds are just unwanted plants. When we want them, the slugs will have eaten them all:(

I was taught to find out if it's a weed or not by pulling on it (oo-er).
If it comes up easily, it's a flower. The easier it is uprooted, the more expensive it is.
If it's an absolute ******* to pull up, or breaks during, it's a weed.

Some weeds are very pretty, and some flowers are bloody ugly.

It's a shame that lleylandii's and conifers conform to the weed theory

Dandelions are sold in the marketplace in France, the young leaves are fine in a salad. I think all parts of the Dandelion can be made use of, including the roots roasted and ground into coffee.

......and to think, year after year, after year some folk spray the things and they still find their way back. I mean, what is the point of spraying something with chemicals (and killing all manner of wildlife) when it will return every year due to the seeds being carried on the wind. If man could just get his head around that he may one day stop spraying:twisted:

Have to say I don't spray weedkillers, with the exception of mares tale and bindweed. It irritates when neighbours allow bindweed to flourish on their side, so it then finds its way into my garden.

'Weed' A plant growing in the wrong place.
Along my flowers or veg/soft fruit I pull them.
The best, if you are up to it, weed early before the sun gets to them.
Even the perennials die out if deprived of photosynthesis.
Only thing I do spray is Japanese Knot Weed. And that has to be done in a particular way to be effective.

Japanese Knotweed is not nice at all.
I believe detritus21 is qualified to deal with it.

DEFRA's advice works.
Gets better results than most contractors manage.
BUT HAVE TO FOLLOW IT PRECISELY, TO THE LETTER
Essential that toxin is absorbed whilst rhizome is re-absorbing nutrient from leaves. Tops will die off, and rhizome will continue to spread if not sufficiently dosed.

Took 2 years thereabouts to get rid of the knotweed that we had growing locally.

DEFRA say three years continuous treatment, then treat any 'appearances'. It is the underground rhizome which needs to be killed, and it is that which is so difficult to deal with.
I have watched a number of 'professional' eradicators tackle it, only to make the infestation worse.
