First topic message reminder :
The Goose Green to Westwood Park Link Road, is due to start construction soon and I know that Tomplum is really looking forward to work on the new road starting and mac said in another topic that they have been pegging out for the road bridge over the stream, so this is a plan of the new road, which has been made by a company called Tekla

Tomplum
Someone posted a drone video recently somewhere which shows a shared footpath/cycle path going over the Canal bridge so there is no need to go to Poolstock bottom lock to cross the Canal.

Yes,,, as the new road approaches the canal, the footpath to one side of the road splits off in two directions, one towards the canal bank, and the other onto a pavement at the side of the road going over the canal, as shown in this video
The new road looks soooperb

What idiot has called that video "Poolstock Bypass" when it's name is "A49 Link Road" ? Rather than 'by-passing' Poolstock, it's bringing traffic into it that would, previously, have carried on, along the A49, into Wigan.

I have noticed tonight that the street lights are illuminated on the new road, I can see the start of the new road, through the trees at the roundabout end, and I can see that the first three sets of lights are switched on, but I don't know if they are all switched on along the entire length of the road or not

Well Lord Snooty opened Southgate, and what are they going to call the new road, because I am not keen on the Southgate name ....

What sort of people would think of "southgate" as a name for a road that goes to the west?
Well, Wigan? Say no more!

How can it be a 'Westwood' by-pass, when it doesn't by-pass Westwood?
In fact, it's not a by-pass at all, it's a link road.
It could be the 'Westwood Link Road' ?
In my opinion, it's been done in the wrong place for it's intended purpose.

I agree, They were gifted the land. 'Lost' the covenant to the playing fields and built a school on it with no ecological advantages, (Perfect for solar panels and a couple of small wind turbines at least). Some bank accounts are now a lot healthier than when the land was a haven and payting nothing in.

Westwood Way sounds alright to me, because the name of Westwood as been on the project all the way through, and the section of the road at the side of Scotmans Flash, was called Westwood Sidings, and land extending from Westwood Cemetery at the side of the old railway line, was called Westwood Gardens, and of course that dirty, smelly, old power station, was called Westwood Power Station.
But it would be too easy for the council to call it anything to doo with Westwood wouldn't it ...

how can it be called Westwood link road, it does not link Westwood but, it does ' pass by' Westwood, so put that in thi porche and drive it along the link road that links Chapel Lane to Goose green,

The official construction name for the project is the 'A49 Goose Green to Westwood Park Link Road' and the idea is for the road to eventually go from the M58 junction at Orrell, and on to a junction with Atherleigh Way at Atherton, further plans are for it to then run through Gibfield, and on up to the M61 at Chequerbent, in other words, a patchwork construction of the M58 extension from Orrell to Cowyed Land ...

The area has always been called Westwood Park, the gardens I mentioned earlier were actually called Westwood Park Gardens, and there was a Signal Box there, which was called Westwood Park Signal Box, so it would seem that the name of the road, should have Westwood Park in it ...

When I made the first post, a big red message appeared that said "wait ten seconds and post again", so I did, only to discover that I'd posted twice?

Eh.?
Of course it links Westwood. It links Westwood to Warrington Road.
Or Warrington Road to Westwood, as it is.
It's the Warrington Road (A49) to Westwood Link Road, by-passing Poolstock.
The correct route would've been off the A49/M6 access roundabout, by-passing Hawkley Hall estate on the Ince side. That would benefit Westwood Business Park by opening it up to M6 traffic, improving business access whilst also improving Wigan shopping access without increasing the traffic congestion through Pemberton (Marus Bridge/Robin Park).

No No No No, to link something, you are connecting to it, you are not connecting to Westwood, you are by passing it. Its a 'red no stopping' carriageway, you can only go past Westwood or by pass it,

Tha's wrung!
The purpose of that road is to create access to Westwood, where a large business park is to be (further) created.
The road will LINK Warrington Road with Westwood. It will finish at Westwood. It will connect to Poolstock, then onto Wigan via. Chapel Lane.
Eventually (I don't think we'll see it!) it'll connect to the M6/M58.
Unless I've read it wrong?

It should be named Kevin's Way.

its defo going to disrupt his life, his tent is only a few yards away from the road so, when the traffic is back to full load, the normal drone of the traffic, plus sirens, car horns, boy racers exhaust farters and screeching tyres round the bottom island will cause him to seek a new billet I think,
