there is no way the council could have checked all the cladding on all the blocks of flats

According to the link

"Every single one of those has been visited by our fire fighters who've not just gone to see what's there but see what's provided there to help people get out"

Every building has been visited, not every flat. At least that's how I understand it.

Possibly Kryten.  I don't honestly know. It would be good for the residents to know that the buildings have been visited in the last few days in view of  tragic events.

It's not the fire brigade's job. It's the job of the building control department of the council. They are the ones who (are supposed to) supervise construction and maintainence in order to make sure any work is in accordance with the current building regulations. There's also landlord and tenant act compliance (safety regulations).

Somebody will have to swing for this !

Scapegoats will be used, sadly.

Many Housing associations have sent letters to tenants of High rise blocks assuring then of the block's safety, one Housing association has removed it's fire safety page from it's site..

All high-rise blocks should have manual means of egress ( ie: metal steps , externally fixed ), for means of escape.

And two opposite stairwells....

I can see the reasoning behind the lack of sprinklers, (Children setting them off) but the blocks should be regularly checked to ensure all fire doors are closed in the corridors and there are no trip hazards .

Just seen the external stairwell post. I wouldn't like to see stairs going that high externally, but I see the reasoning.

The Wigan fire brigade checks were completed 2 months ago and are to be repeated. The cladding is non combustible and is fitted directly onto the brickwork, no gaps to cause chimneys, each block has two sets of stairs at either end of the block. Each flat has a working smoke alarm. All flats have fire doors, each corridor has at least 2 fire doors.

At the risk of repeating myself, if you don't live there don't scaremonger by making guesses....

Yes they are, Stumpy. And there are hoses at each end of the corridor.

When I lived in't thigh rise in Worsley Mesnes, the fire hoses had been removed from the landings, because earlier in the blocks life, kids had kept using them to drench folk walking below, they squirted the water from the landing windows, which could be opened and imagine you are walking to the shop and you got hit by water from a fire hose, squirted from 15 floors up.

Hence the reason there are no sprinkler systems fitter.

Bob Brierley said, if he'd 'got in', he would have suggested parachutes for all Scholes flats tenants above the second floor and 'soft-landing grass' for those below.
Lisa Nandy said she thought it was an 'opposition idea' and Yvonne Fovargue agreed with anything that Lisa Nandy said.

Further reassurance has been given to residents living in Wigan’s high-rise blocks following the Grenfell Tower tragedy. All social housing providers in the country have carried out fire-safety reviews following the tragedy. Wigan Council is leading an on-going review of fire safety measures on its seven high rise blocks, which are all based in Scholes in central Wigan. The review has so far found no immediate action needs to be taken with the type of cladding used on the building, raising no cause for concern.

The residents of the high rises in Scholes are really peed off with the Council over the cladding turning green and falling off fiasco and all the upheaval it as caused and although they have been told their cladding is safe from catching fire, they don't have any faith in the council, so they are not really reassured by the letter which they received.

There have been complaints that the netting is stopping any breeze getting in during the hot weather.
