2}Take 9 from 6, 10 from 9, 50 from 40 and leave 6.

Correct RMJ

Think of a wooden cube measuring three inches on each side.

Imagine painting it red all over -- on the exposed surfaces.

If you now cut the cube into one-inch cubelets (there will be 27 of them),

how many will have paint on exactly two faces?

The original 3 inch cube has 6 faces.

It has 3 planes, X, Y and Z.

The cubes with 2 painted faces are the in the middle of each face.

The number of 1 inch cubes with paint on 2 faces is 12 off.

These are too easy

Don,t go rooting in Susans Wardrobe for the answer to this one:D

The number of dresses owned by Susan is the same number owned by Tess divided by the number owned by Jane.

Tess has 42 dresses and would own eight times as many as Jane if Tess had 14 more.

How many dresses does Susan have?

“Don,t go rooting in Susans Wardrobe for the answer to this one LOL “

Tess has 42

Jane has 42 + 14 / 8 = 7

Susan has 42 / 7 = 6

Susan has 6 dresses.

The answer I have is 166. too.

Not sure if there is more than one solution.

I couldn’t figure out a logical way of solving it.

It is obvious the numbers get bigger the higher up the pyramid they go.

I just opted on trying a number in the question mark box and then adjusting it

to suit the numbers below.

Thank you from me as well to both you and Ray.

Logical explanation bottom row reads 11,26, unknown,2,8

78 equals the sum of two numbers on row below and as a consequence equals 26+2+ twice the unknown on the bottom row.

Unknown centre number on bottom row =25.Simple additions to complete the pattern

A well-known proverb has been split up into groups.

Rearrange the groups to form the proverb.

What is it?

INEI ITIS OUT SIN, THEW THEW WHEN

I didn't read the question properly, and have only just realised that

the quotation is in 'block' form, I've been struggling with it for ages.

It's not a particularly well known one too.

When the wine is in, the wit is out.

Night night sleep tight.

If Tom gives Tim £12 they will both have the same amount of money.

If Tim gives Tom £12 Tom will have five times as much as Tim.

Who has what?

Draw up a chair have another cuppa MYG. You too RMJ, and anyone else.

In a town a number of men and women are entitled to a tax rebate.

One third of all the men in the town receive £12

and one quarter of all the women receive £16.

If £35,824 is distributed in total,

what is the population of the town?

I seem to have arrived at a different solution to myg, which doesn't mean I'm right.

As usual, I have over complicated things LOL

But the solution does fit the original two statements, but of course

there may be more than one solution.

Here goes :-

Let Tom’s money = x

Let Tim’s money = y

Statement 1) y + 12 = x

Therefore y = x -12 (equation 1)

Statement 2) 5y = x + 12 (equation 2)

y = y

To repeat equation 2 :-

5y = x + 12

Substitute x -12 for y as in equation 1

5(x – 12) = x + 12

5x – 60 = x + 12

5x = x +72

4x = 72

x = 18

therefore y = 6

Tom has £18, Tim has £6

Thanks Ray,my mother (95) is improving after collapsing on the day of the funeral.So far all tests have come back clear ,just waiting for MRI result.

In your solution y+12= x-12 as the 12 pounds has changed hands

similarly x+12=5(y-12)
