Higher Incers V Lower Incers
Tue Jan 02 2018, 00:00
First topic message reminder :
Where's the boundary?
Is there one?
I wise man once wrote:
The boundary between Lower Ince and Higher Ince doesn't exist, apart from in the minds of the locals.
Here
And I bet the vast majority of either camp will say they live in Wigan.

I draw your attention to the Higher and Lower Lane reference to Sunday walks to church.

Seen the article a few times previously, hadn't made the connection.

They reckon Ince is a Welsh word for 'island'. There's a few Inces. Two are mentioned in the Domesday book, but Ince in Makerfield isn't.

Is there a traffic island in Higher Ince?
I know there's one in Lower Ince.

It's to the right.
I think there's even a 'Boundary Street' there.

Either way it goes, some sod put a load of drawing pins all over the path just ahead of the Land Rover the other week.

Wiganers don't do such things.

Either road, it wasn't a cyclist. Or a dog owner.

A wall is needed.
Made out of them Orrell bricks by Britannia Bridge. The remnants of the bakery wall.

The boundary of Higher and Lower is the bridge at Christ Church/Ince Parish church. Boundary Street off Warrington Road Ince/Wigan.
Lower Incers are soft sods.
