Some places I've been to have paper straws, which we used to have in our primary school decades ago. They always went soggy before you'd finished your bottle of milk. So here we are decades later reverting back to those days.

I remember school in early 70's being forced to drink ice cold milk in winter at 10am. I considered it a daily punishment. I wish Thatcher had got rid of it earler. But at least there was no need for plastic whatsoever to provide milk to the public.

The Isle of Man Creamery will introduce the first plant based carton in the British Isles next month.
On September 10th plastic cartons will be replaced with the non-oil based plant cartons.

All the rubbish in The World should be collected up and tipped into the many active volcanoes which exist. It would all be instantly incinerated and the fumes created by the process would be immeasurable against the fumes which are already created by said volcanoes.
Problem solved!

Imagine this on a MASSIVE scale, as it would be.
Besides, my little conkeroonee stringer, think of the smoke thrown into the Stratosphere. Why it would simply block out the Sun!
Then we come to Nuclear, or even medical waste...Volcs (as they are known to their mates),aren't hot enough to do bowt Nuclear tackle....

Perhaps this will be successful:
A Tesco store in Scotland has resurfaced its car park using an unusual material: plastic.
The Tesco Extra car park in Cuckoo Bridge, Dumfries, was resurfaced using waste plastics that would have been destined for landfill or incineration.
It used the equivalent of 225,000 plastic carrier bags, or 900kgs of plastic that would have been destined for landfill and is the first UK supermarket to use plastic to resurface a car park.
The plastic, which is ground into small pieces, was mixed with asphalt by company MacRebur Plastics Road Company.
“We’re able to take the waste plastics that are otherwise destined for landfill and add them into an asphalt mix to create a stronger, longer lasting, pothole free road surface,” cofounder said.
Tesco said it would test the performance of the road over the winter and if it proved successful would work with the company on future projects.
“We are working hard to reduce plastics and reuse and recycle wherever possible”, Kene Umeasiegbu, Tesco Head of Environment said.

So with all the cars running over the surface breaking the surface up slowly and rain washing it down the drains and eventually into the sea
No change there then

I see this as a great leap forward. Rubberised asphalt is used, but should be used more....Hope this is a great success.

The company claim that less bitumen leaks into the waterways and that as the plastic is fully melted into the bitumen there are no microbeads.

It reminds me of the Japanese motorcycle tyres of the 70's. They were made out of plastic mixed with rubber.
When it rained, they'd might as well have been made of ice !

All the rubbish should be collected together, from all over the World, and shipped over to America where there's lots of land where they can dig big holes with a machine and bury it all!

A plastic washing-up liquid bottle that is at least 47 years old has been found on an Isle of Man beach, just days after a similar find in the UK.

SUPERMARKET giant Tesco has announced a new way to encourage customers to recycle plastic bottles.
Stores have begun trialling in-store recycling machines which will pay customers for every plastic bottle returned.
The first machine opened for customers in Borehamwood and pays 10p for bottles returned.
Customers in UK stores will also now be able to reuse their own multi-use plastic containers when they buy meat, cheese or fish from deli and fish counters.
Instead of using single-use plastic bags, products will be weighed and wrapped in recyclable paper then placed inside the customer’s container with the price label placed on the paper.
