About three quarters of a mile. If I dropped lucky at “ coming home” time a local milk delivery farmer would be passing the school with his horse and cart and I would scrounge a ride home.

PS. Glad he wasn’t our milkman as he only finished deliveries around 3pm.

PPS Never used the term “ coming home time” in yonks. Just came into my head.
