I have been in them parts too today, I have been too Vulcan village, too see if it was still there clown

Doo yoo remember Sankey Sugar, well if yoo had stopped on the canal trail, yoo would have come to the site of the old Sankey Sugar works Smile

http://www.newtonheritagetrail.com/muckie-mountains

When yoo came off the trail, and on to the main road, which is called Common Road, that becomes Crow Lane West, then at the traffic lights turn left on to Vista Road, at the other end of which is Haydock, turn right and the yoo are back in Ashton.

I find people in those parts, Earlestown, Wargrave, Vulcan, Winwick, and the other way down Common Road towards Burtonwood and St Helens, a damn sight more pleasant than what they are here in Wigan .....

Tom, you start at Stanley Bank, to the old mill, then you turn left on the canal to the Ship Inn.   Next, you emerge from the sugar works end, from the opposite direction, and turn right up Common Brow.   How did you get there?

Anyroadup, at 12:20 on your film, you're on the East Lancs. and pass a building on your left called Handepay.  Guess who made and fitted all the blinds to all those windows?  Very Happy

today I extended that ride to Winwick and found out, after you go through the Sankey Valley you can get on the Peninie route or the Mersey route and bike/walk to your hearts content

a stage further, today I took it a stage further into the warrington area, birchwood, penketh, gemini too many paths with no signage I was going round and round and the sun made it hard to read my 'maps' from the screen but, I had a good 4 hour ride in car free paths and trails,

yes indeed and once you get into the Eileen Billton project estates, there a mix of industry ,commerce and domestic estates all with country parks between them all joined up with absolutely loads of cycling paths which from there you can go to the Mersey estuary , Runcorn, widnes and beyond, Without my 'Maps' app, I would still be there looking for the way out,

beyond Sankey Valley is the Transpeninne trail, So called because you can travel from the West coast , ( Southport) to the East coast ( Hornsea ) a 215 mile journey, To day I found out its not all a smooth surface, The section I did From Warrington to Lymm is muddy and hard going, Not for the faint hearted,

Manchester to Blackpool in July is on the cards, I'm not doing it for charity because they are teckintpiss now these charities But, I can see the fun in it and especially the fact that, cars will have to give us priority , the comradeship of the other bikers and the achievement of doing the 60 miles,
Keep an eye out for me because I'll be doing it nakky Very Happy

Only jokin' about the nakky bit Vixen, I've just been doing a feasibility study, its £27.50 to enter, an average of 5000 bikes do it so that gives them £137.500 before they get the sponsors money, then the sales of water, pop, beer, snacks, tee shirt and shorts , banners, ribbons etc, etc, So its plan B,
Plan B is to join in, they are coming up the lancs from Manchester and going via Haigh hall and joining the A6 to Preston. Somewhere along there I'll just blend in and see how it goes, Sankey Valley 3530011831

Todays ride was a challenging ride made, more challenging owing to the fact, I'd forgot to charge the battery ,It was a 25 mile ride taking almost 3 hours burning 5000 calories , The odd thing was, we stopped at a bench, as we often do and, this bloke on a bike stopped and asked, " scuse me asking but, where did you get your shorts from?" , I answered him, " ebay why, " and then he went on ask more questions and tell us firstly , he was a new cyclist and did't want to look out of place, the goes on the say what rides he done and metioned he's done the Manchester to Blackpool 4 times, He also rode a giant bike, ( not cheap) so, You meet some funny folks out there , anyrode here's the route,

"In the above photo from the early 1930s, Cannington Shaw driver James Prescott is pictured on the left. Born in Knobstick Hall in 1892, he lived in Waterdale Crescent upon marrying and then Irwin Road. With him is believed to be Bob Bridge from Sutton."

Knobstick Hall eh.?

I wonder if Tom's rode past it on his bike?
