What You Got Growing?
Thu May 01 2014, 10:18
Really limited space wise, and behind with everything, but I have sown some 'Sutton' Broad Beans, 'Onward' Peas, 'Wodan' Beetroot, 'MoneyMaker' Tomatoes, 'Black Beauty' Aubergine, 'Beth' Baby Cucumbers and Melon so far.

Nice one, Tomp. Much as they (rats) are much maligned, they are still part of God's great scheme.

I've got 8 plants potted in the greenhouse (5 tomatoes, 3 peppers), and a load more yet to go in. Thinking of growing inside and outdoors too. Also 3 bags of spuds, 4 oxheart lettuce in a patch, plus mixed salad leaves, radish, brocolli etc.

I have a rat residing under the shed, it comes out to get food when I feed the birds. Never comes near the house, all I do is give the birds a bit more food.

Good idea, I will look forward to that. I keep meaning to sort my film and photos for computer, but never get round to it.

Now have about 25 plants in the greenhouse, 1 runner bean, the rest are peppers and tomatoes, though they won't all be staying in there; some will be grown on outside.

Only one which germinated
I will be buying new seed this year end. Had quite high failure rates, but they're old seed.

Never have a problem with peas and broad beans, but runners and french beans aren't as reliable, same with growing them.

They're not as a heavy cropper as other types of bean but the finest tasting, stringless bean I have ever tasted

I shall order some for next year. Had some green beans with half a roast joint from a bit back tonight, but they were only frozen

Why are growing canes (5 foot) so bloody difficult to get hold of?
Tried B&Q, where they had the plastic coated ones @ £2 each, everywhere else had only 4' ones.
Ended up going to Homebase, paid £4 for 10

Used to get mine from Focus but they shut down. Not bought any new for a few years, B&Q and Homebase are expensive I think.

Argh, I was in Wilkinsons a few days back too, and didn't even notice!
Think I bought my last lot from Ince Morrisons, but I'll have a gander in Wilks next time I'm in there. I'll get some photos up of my greenhouse shortly.

Good pic Tem, we got our Marigolds from Morrisons £1.99 for 8, also got a pack of 6 Geraniums for £1.99 which have all grown on spectacularly - despite the ants nest I found in the G's.
My toms aren't quite that big, only just potted them up, same as melon, aubergine, cukes - growing for first time in a plastic greenhouse - should be fun.

Mine are from the range, good value
.
Bought an apache chilli today. Just the one, because none of my chilli seeds took.
Oh - them unwins pots in Asda are 50p to clear: tomatoes, cayenne chilli, cucumbers and rockets to choose from. Worth it for next year's seed.
