polycarbonate rot
Wed Jun 11 2014, 18:40
I bought a poly carbonate greenhouse two years ago and just noticed the panels that get most sun are rotting, I've googled and found that poly carbonate should not rot, after further googling there are some types of panels that look like polycabonate but are not pure, they have other recyleable 'bits' mixed in,
make sure if you're buying one of these greenhouses its 100% polycarbonate, I got mine off ebay,

Thats a pain after only 2 years, but a lesson learned I guess. Thanks for letting us know Tom, also let us know if and where you get a new one.
If you can keep the ends fastened down it may last a bit longer.

thats another thing with these greenhouses. the window panels blow out in windy weather. they come with spring clips to hold down the panels. but they're meant for glass, not polycarbonate, so I screwed them down with self tappers. that does the trick,

Looks quite similar to my previous one, I got it from Norfolk Greenhouses. I'm of the opinion that you can't beat glass now, and it was an expensive lesson as it only lasted 3 years, and that included buying a load of twinwall to repair it with after a particularly brutal wind.

well I've looked all over and it seems B+Q come out cheapest at £8.98 for a 1200x600 4mm panel, there are others at cheaper prices per panel but they want stupid shipping costs like £18 for shipping 4 panels, So its B+Q and hopefull they are genuine polycarbonate and will last a bit longer. I don't really want glass. although I agree its best.I just have thing about glass doors/windows and kids,
