Lexophile...

is a word used to describe those that have a love for words, such as "you can tune a piano, but you can't tuna fish", or "to write with a broken pencil is pointless." A competition to see who can come up with the best lexophiles is held every year in an undisclosed location.

... When fish are in a school, they sometimes take debate.

... A thief who stole a calendar got twelve months.

... When the smog lifts in Los Angeles U.C.L.A.

... The flat batteries were given out free of charge.

... A dentist and a manicurist married. They fought tooth and nail.

... A will is a dead giveaway.

... With her marriage, she got a new name and a dress.

... A boiled egg is hard to beat.

... When you've seen one shopping center you've seen a mall.

... Police were summoned to a daycare center where a three-year-old was resisting a rest.

... Did you hear about the fellow whose entire left side was cut off? He's all right now.

... A bicycle can't stand alone; it's just two tired.

... When a clock is hungry it goes back four seconds.

... The guy who fell onto an upholstery machine is now fully recovered.

... He had a photographic memory which was never developed.

... When she saw her first strands of grey hair she thought she'd dye.

... Acupuncture is a jab well done. That's the point of it.

... Those who get too big for their pants will be totally exposed in the end.

Sophomore

Just heard it a few minutes ago on TBBT.

I had no idea what it meant.

noun
1) a student in the second year of high school or college.

2) a person or group in the second year of any endeavor:
He's a sophomore on Wall Street.

adjective
3) of or relating to a sophomore.

4) of or being a second effort or second version:
Their sophomore album was even better than their first.

Cheers Mester Derf

Sheldon Cooper said someone was having "a sophomore slump".

Which I presume is a not-so-good second year at college.

"Generation X"

The generation born after that of the baby boomers, roughly from the early 1960s to late 1970s, typically perceived to be disaffected and directionless.

The term "Generation X" has been used at various times throughout history to describe alienated youth.
In the 1950s, Hungarian photographer Robert Capa used “Generation X” as the title for a photo-essay about young men and women growing up immediately following World War II in 1976,

English musician Billy Idol used the moniker as the name for Punk Rock Band based on the title of a 1965 book on popular youth culture by two British journalists, Jane Deverson and Charles Hamblett.

The term acquired its modern definition after the release of "Generation X, Tales of an Accelerated Culture" a 1991 novel written by Canadian author Douglas Coupland.

Tchotchke

A tchotchke (/ˈtʃɒtʃkə/ CHOCH-ka)[1][2][3][4][5] is a small bauble or miscellaneous item. The word has long been used by Jewish-Americans and in the regional speech of New York City and elsewhere.

The word may also refer to free promotional items dispensed at trade shows, conventions, and similar commercial events. They can also be sold as cheap souvenirs in tourist areas, which are sometimes called "tchotchke shops".

Heard this mentioned on one of the many hinterlectewal programs

what I watch on the tellybox.

"La Belle Epoque"

La Belle Époque (French for "Beautiful Era") was a period in the European history that is conventionally

dated as starting in 1871 and ending when World War I began in 1914.

Occurring during the era of The French Third Republic (beginning 1870), it was a period characterized

by optimism, peace at home and in Europe, new technology and scientific discoveries.

The peace and prosperity in Paris allowed the arts to flourish, and many masterpieces of literature,

music, theatre, and visual art gained recognition.

The Belle Époque was named, in retrospect, when it began to be considered a "Golden Age"

in contrast to the horrors of World War I.

Quixotic

This word has always intrigued me.

I vaguely knew its meaning and usage but Mr Google came to hand.

Quixotic
What a wonderful word quixotic is! While it is most often used to mean equally impractical and idealistic,
it also has the sense of romantic nobility. Its source is from the great Spanish novel "Don Quixote,"
whose title character is given to unrealistic schemes and great chivalry. In the middle of a recession and high unemployment,
it would be quixotic to imagine that you could quit your job and find another easily.
